Has anyone got thoughts on bits?
I'm only on the rope halter and one rein stage with Malaga, soon to move up to two reins.
I do have a Dr.Cooks Bitless but I have a Myler combination for him too.I notice that Now Myler recommend tying a cord from the noseband to the browband to keep it in place.I haven't tried this yet as it seems to be a recent idea but I will experiment....anyone else tried it?http://mylerbitsusa.com/bit_combo.shtml

Well, if they recommend tying it up with string, sounds to me as if there is a huge flaw in the bit.

I have a myler combo for Treacle but I only rode in it once or twice before I roughed her off for the winter. Will report back in a month or so, what I think of it, she went well in the myler comfort snaffle though.

Alternatively we have just got an unusual pelham/curb from Argentina, which the stallion loves, so I may give that a whirl. Personally for me, I like a lot of bit with good hands/light contact, which may not suit everyone, other people may prefer a milder bit and more of a contact.

So far Malaga and I are gettinmg along with no bit and very little contact but you aren't allowed to do things without a bit in this country

You can do most things without a bit except dressage but I think that you mean without a bridle  If you changed the halter for something resembling a scawbrig you would not encounter as much opposition.

I have a Dr.Cooks for him but I don't like the Scawbrig as the one I've seen used there seems no way of stopping unauthorised grazing :) so I thought I'd use the Myler because the bit action seems better for mules from what I've heard Hopefully if I train him correctly I shouldn't need to use the bit much..

For anything BDS related you will be thrown off without either a bit or blinkers.
