Do mules and hinnies mix well with other equines equally or do they prefer to have another one like them?
None of my ponies mix that well with Ben, would he be better with another mule for company?
Do some prefer ponies whilst others prefer donkeys for company.
Do ponies and donkeys want to bother with them or do they stick together given the choice?
If you put a pony a donkey and a mule in a field together who would be best friends?
Is there a general rule or is every situation down to the individuals.
Do mules prefers ponies because their dam was a pony and hinnies go for donkeys for the same reason?
When I put two ponies and Ben out together the ponies spend time together and leave Ben alone.
Is that because he is violent or because they dont recognise him as proper company?

I've only seen Tami and Phil's mules all together in mixed fields with several mules and several horses and they all seemed to mix and chop and change their mates just as fields of horses do.

Moon is very funny turned out in a mixed field of horses - she flirts with the geldings so they protect her and then finds herself a bestest mare girlfriend and abandons the adoring lads.

There is a tradition of a "bell mare" where mule will tend to follow a horse mare.

I don't know about hinnies but certainly for mules there's no reason they need another mule for company, horses do just fine.

The donkey sanctuary has mules and donks, presumably living together, does anyone know how they interact?

Sarah-lee (Hinny) always searched out the Donkeys when corralled at Mule Camp when it was held at Roy Harris's.She is't fond of Mules or Horses (She thinks Horses are common  )

Frances, female, used to be extremely friendly with yearling colts in adjacent field, they would groom necks over the gate. She's been known to flutter her eyelashes at the new neighbour's Clydesdale stallion, but he's not allowed to socialise with anything as common as a mule.
Perhaps with Ben it's an age thing. Bolshy youngsters are never popular!

Some interesting replies here.
I suppose whatever mum was will be what they think they are, like when you hatch duck eggs under a chicken? Ducklings hatched this way hang out with the chickens fine dont they?
Going round kicking everyone would make him unpopular anywhere.
Today he was out with an in foal mare, her yearling daughter and a yearling colt. He behaved himself. The mare is a right grump and she orders them all about, what with having three terrible yearlings to boss and being pregnant she does not take hassle from any of them!
I just thought maybe another mule would be good company for him?

Molly (hinny) is turned out with two antique donkeys and a shetland. Molly and the shetland stay very close together and the donkeys stay together. We feed them in two seperate areas as the poor old donkeys are a little wary of Molly . Though I've never seen her being aggressive...I suppose it must be in the body language or something.
I think Molly has always lived with horses so its probably just a case of what they're used to. In fact most mules have probably never met another mule!

That's interesting Meadow that your Hinny prefers the pony. When I rode Sarah-lee out she totally ignored any horses or ponies yet she knew where there was a donkey hidden and would stop and call out even before I did :D
I once had difficulty getting her to pass a field in the village and could't understand it as she was usually so good.I mentioned it to a friend and she said that the lady who owned the field had just aquired a coloured donkey ad kept it in a paddock behind the house.

Isnt that a shame?
Makes me almost want to get him one for a friend. But he is settling well with the ponies.
