Now I have something that I can't mount from the ground ( as me little legs are too short  )
I've had to think of other ways round the problem.
I was in B&Q a few months back looking at pipes etc for poles and found some water butt stands. Most of them didn't have the strength if you stood on them but there were some green ones on offer that just suited. They were square (ish) and for stacking purposes had some "legs" moulded into the frame which were
a)very useful for storing hoof picks, grooming tools and the odd bottle of honey for tasty bits and
b) added strength to the top if you stood on it to mount.
As they were on offer I got two for less than £6 the pair. They are just a comfortable height though you do have to watch the storage holes.I might fix a peice of plywood to the top for convenience.
Have any of you found any cheap mounting blocks?

A friend bought 2 lots of caravan steps at auction which were ideal. Metal framed with mesh steps. ALWAYS USE A MOUNTING BLOCK or climb on off the gate! We had a demo at Hartpury which showed how detrimental to the horses back it is to get up from the ground & on the same side repeatedly.
You had to queue up there to use the mounting block!

That's why the Yanks breed proper sized animals that you can mount from the ground.....where would the pony expressbe if they had to find a mounting block all the time and westerns would never be the same
