Is there a general opinion among people in the know that one is better than the other?
Are either better in their temperament or conformation over the other, or better performers?
Or any differences that occur with the majority of them.
And if you dont know how they are bred, can you tell which way round his parents were?
Just wondered.
Generally Mules have the Donkey head and Tail and the horses body and strength....Hinnies have the horses head and tail and the donkeys strength ad body....but I've seen pictures of proven mules that look like hinnies and visa versa!
Hinnies are rarer than Mules because horses aren't as persistant as Donkey stallions

Very interesting article, but the scientific bit a the top was a bit beyond me.
I have a friend who bred three first cross, Shire X TBs.
Two out of TB mares and one out of a Shire mare. All were colts which were soon gelded and all were broken by the same man at the same farm.
The two out of TB mares looked more quality, people thought they were pure IDs. The one out of the Shire mare was much coarser, he had the big Shirey hips, the loads of white that tell of their breeding and a much more roamn profile to his face.
The one by the TB stallion from the Shire mare was a time bomb and very flighty, he smashed up the trailer, trashing his hocks in the process and was always highly strung. The other two were much more laid back and trainable. He thought that each of them had taken the temperament from the stallions and the physical make up more from the mares.
He did not like the one from the Shire mare but loved the other two.
Wondered if mules take after their donkey sires in temperament more and hinnies take on the temperament of the horse stallion?
