What do I need to feed Ben?
He is skinny. Has been treated for worms twice now, first with Eqvalan when I got him then with Equimax last week.
He was gelded five weeks ago and has settled well.
He has haylage, is out all night on the summer field (not lush, sheep stripped) and fed on Baileys stud balancer (1 cup) Frickers conditioning mix (1 small scoop) and Apple chaff (1 small scoop)
His coat is dry and fluffy, looks like he needs oily feed.
He wont eat his food if it has nuts/cubes in it or sugar beet.
Looking at the size of him he looks like he should live on next to nothing but he looks so poor.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
He wont eat it.
Ive had to buy Apple Chaff just for him. The Alfa A sits in his manger and goes bad. He wont touch the whole feed if I put any sugar beet in it.
He loves the stud balancer but thats only a cupful. He wont eat any cubes at all.
He is very skinny If he was not so thin I would leave him without.
The grass is picking up now.

I think if he was mine I'd add a good slug of soya oil if he will eat it and not panic too much. Give him another month until he really settles from the gelding and the grass comes through properly and if he's still skinny have another think then. Other than that I suppose worth considering probiotics, something like Coligone, his teeth, worm counts and blood tests - its just being a tight Scot I'd rather sit tight and see if there is an improvement before really throwing money at him.
I dont know about Scots being tight, I dont want to spend unless I have to!
Cant think his teeth would need attention, he has chewed all the blimmin wood in his stall and he does eat haylage quite well, never quids at all and no pouches in his cheeks.
Might give the oil a try, but as for taking blood? Would be the vets blood not Bens, he still thinks having his feet done is downright wrong
