Hi I am a new member, and in Australia.I have been waiting around , over -due Mammoth jennys keeping me close to home-they have to foal sometime! If members don't mind an off shore member,I would love to have somewhere new to chat while I wait around, and afterwards, occasionally.Don't 'spose there are any members here from Oz?
I am a bayboomer- (I hate the term) so my mispent youth is well behind me.Always loved horses, then 'found' donkeys and mules.
Although the mules probaly arrived a bit late -as both of them were aged. One has now gone to mule heaven, the other Molly (inevitable for one's first mule?) is about 33 now, although still healthy.

Our other interest, donkeys ,took a equal hold and we ended up importing Mammoths from USA 5yrs ago.But as luck was,one lost her pregnacy, and the jack turned out infertile! So we amrked time till...we finally got a new jack-a Mammoth, and are now awaiting their foals.
I see Mammoths as much the same as mules-great for their interesting personalities;suited to various purposes;and the great thing is-easier to breed.Well that has not been the case for us so far..but now we might be getting somewhere! Image

Hello. I am also at that certain age but I did not have a mis spent youth, I am having it now! I do not have a mule but have a standard donkey aged 20 and a 10 yr old mare and her yearling (horses).
Good luck with the donkey breeding.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum - shall look forward to photos of the foals when they arrive - donkey foals are just so adorable.

Where in Oz are you - I did the obligatory gab year in Australia that ended up being three years working on TB studs and breeding Anglo's and Arabian Warmbloods. Still checking my sanity for coming back to this cold, wet, expensive country!!!

Hi Jinglejoys-lovely to see how your mule is progressing!I think these are the slides you want?
http://naturalequinehoofcare.spaces.live.com/
here's a bit of an update-2nd hand I'm afraid.
There are now a few more mules over here-by people who want their own,and so get their Mare AI ed to a mammoth,so far the one jack Major.
They have had a couple of mule schools-One was with a man who trained with Brad Cameron -sadly he has moved back to USA.Then early this year Adrian?? a Swiss.parelli instructior held a mule school with about 8 mules.
One friend actually changed his job and moved interstate so as to be able to work every day with his 2 mules on a big cattle feedlot.(The cattle checking work is done from horseback as its calm for the beasts)So is that dedication to the Mule or what!

I had the luck to watch Adrien doing a clinic last year. I learnt so much just from watching even if it was a couple of levels higher than I was doing
You can read about it here

and here :)

Did he take his mules to Australia?
I've had lessons with Steve Halfpenny (Learnt with Parelli ,now runs Silversands)who has his own mule which he bred and comes over from Aussie land every year also from Dave Stuart who has also worked with mules as have most Parelli instructors...trouble is these Aussies keep skuttling back to Australia in our winter, can't think why!

Hi Jennet, yes the mule at the top is mine "Treacle" - she's a dark grulla, with dorsal stripe and leg barring. being in the UK though my vet helpfully put down "brown" on her passport...
