Just had an email from the ROYAL HIGHLAND SHOW.....
I hope you will be delighted to hear that we are to be running a class within our private Driving Section for donkeys or Mules. This will be an Open Donkey and Mule class, to be shown in an exercise vehicle(this being defined as a carriage not of traditional type design and includes those with pneumatic tyres specifically designed for carriages ie not car tyres) . To be judged on general cleanliness, safety of turnout, correct fitting of harness, vehicle suitability and behaviour of animals. The reason we are going to stipulate exercise vehicles is that we are also introducing a class for exercise vehicles, and the intention would be to amalgamate these classes should we not get sufficient donkey/mule entries to warrant holding a class for them on their own. This will take place on the afternoon of Saturday 27th June.
What screams out at me is the timing - MAIN DAY - GOOD TIME. Can we support this???????? We are not particularly near the Highland but if I can help with stabling for anyone coming up the west coast or help with contacts for anyone on the east coast please shout!
That'll be good for those that drive oooop north! Are there any sanctuaries with mules of a driving size that might enter, might be a good advert.
How about Kings Forest Mule sanctuary in Yorkshire, they used to bring about 10/12 mules to the Mule Camp?

There is a MULE SANCTUARY?!!! Have to admit I've never heard of them, can you get in touch with them and let them know?
I did hear rumour that The Sanctuary had taken in the mules so I guess that's the last we'll see of them...shame she had some lovely reasonable sized mules.

Is anyone going to make it - either as a competitor or spectator? I won't make it up on Saturday but there are six entries for the class (donkeys and hopefully mule(s)?) I know one of the donkeys is absolutely lovely and drives very well. The class also gets a plug at the front of the catalogue. Hope they think its worth running it again.
